Money Myths

Here at FruitSack.com we love money, and we always encourage our readers to keep a positive attitude when it comes to money. As a part of our mission to bring positive financial advice to all people, we’ve decided to take a moment to debunk three of the most negative money myths out there. If you happen to live by or believe in any of these money myths, please discard them from the fabric of your mind immediately! These myths were started by people who have no money, and if you would like to have more money in your life you would be wise to erase them from your thoughts right away. =)

Money Myth #1:  “Money is the root of all evil.”

Take a moment to really think about this statement, and ask yourself: if money is so evil, then why does it do so much good for mankind? Think about all the good that comes from money and the people who have it. Entrepreneurs and investors use their money to start businesses; these businesses then provide jobs which stimulates the economy. Every time you purchase a product or service from one of these businesses, that cash goes towards compensation for the company’s employees, which allows them to provide a comfortable life for their families. I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t sound the least bit evil to me. Now think about business owners like Bill Gates and Oprah Winfrey. They are very wealthy people, and they donate a portion of their wealth to charities, educational systems, and cancer research among other things. When you really think about it, it seems quite possible that money is the root of all good. After all – the more money you have, the more good you can do for your fellow man.

Money Myth #2:  “It takes money to make money.”

Having a lot of money does make it easier to make more money, but it isn’t necessary. Sometimes all it takes it some positive thinking, a good idea, and the will to succeed. Oprah Winfrey was born to a poverty-stricken teenage mother in a small Mississippi town, yet she now has a net worth of over a billion dollars. In fact, almost two thirds of the world’s billionaires were born into unprivileged families, but through a lot of determination and a burning desire to succeed, they created an abundance of wealth that most only dream about. Now you have some knowledge to share with those who tell you that you have to have money to make money.

Money Myth #3:  “Money isn’t important.”

Let’s talk honestly and frankly about this money myth. People who love to say that money isn’t important are usually those that have no money. These same people are also quick to point out that money can’t buy happiness. Now, in all honesty….money really can’t buy happiness – but its sure as hell nice to have! Just think about all the problems that you have in your life right now, then ask yourself how many of those problems could be solved by having more money. Maybe your car is giving you trouble? Having more money could buy you reliable transportation. Maybe you have an illness that makes you feel sick or tired, but you can’t afford the high costs of healthcare? Having more money would allow you to see a specialist or receive better healthcare. Maybe you are upset because you are working so much that you can’t spend quality time with your family and those you love? Having more money would allow you to take nice vacations and eliminate the need to work two jobs just to make ends meet. Having more money would also allow you to put your kids in good schools, donate to charities, provide employment for others, and the list goes on. Money definitely cannot buy happiness…but it can sure help to solve a lot of your problems, and less problems means more happiness in your life. Money certainly isn’t everything, and money never comes before people, but to deny that money is an important aspect of life is just plain ridiculous.

The people who came up with these myths were well meaning, but they were also poor. I don’t see how it is possible to be wealthy and actually believe in the myths stated above.  Learn to put up filters to these myths and surround yourself with people who have cultivated a healthy mindset around money. Eventually it will rub off on you and help to change your attitude for the better.
