Why We Don’t Save Money

pocket change Many people live from paycheck to paycheck. In fact that is even more true today due to the economic crisis. Bills pile up and any money that comes in seems to go right back out. Living from payday to payday can be stressful, always wondering if you are going to make it to the next paycheck. Finding ways to save on the things you need and ways to put some money away to save for the future can eliminate a lot of your daily stress!

We tell ourselves that we will start saving with our next paycheck. It is a common thought process, I will do it next time. The problem with this thought process is that it never seems to come to fruition! Next time never actually seems to arrive. We have the best of intentions, but something always seems to take priority over putting some money into savings. Don’t feel badly about it, we all do this from time to time. Just recognize it and and learn from it.

The quickest and easiest way to avoid this type of procrastination is to have money automatically sent to your savings out of every paycheck. If you don’t see the money it is much easier to save it. This can be done quickly and easily through your employer if you have direct deposit, or at your local bank if you do not. Even putting $20 out of every check into your savings can make a world of difference in a very short time. By doing it automatically it takes away the opportunity for you to procrastinate or forget to save.

Another easy way to save money without realizing it is to stop spending change! I know that sounds silly, but if you start putting your change into your savings account every week, you will be amazed at how quickly it becomes substantial! Many people have a change jar. This is fine, except you aren’t earning any interest on that money. Find yourself an interest bearing savings account and once a week or even once every other, stop in and deposit your change! It is money that you won’t miss, but that can be working for you!

Change the way you think about saving and money. Instead of worrying about it, take the focus off of the lack of money in your life and start thinking on a more positive level. Remember the more we focus on the negative, the more negative we become. Conversely, the more we focus on the positive the more positive things, people, and events enter our lives.

Saving doesn’t have to require sacrifice. It can be easy and can really help you plan for the future. Tomorrow is going to come and when it does you want to be prepared! Believe in yourself and in your ability to have financial success. The more you believe it, the more likely it is to happen! Put your focus and thoughts on being happy and having abundance in your life, only then will you be living the life you want.
