Finding Ways to Save When Times are Tough
It can be very difficult to find ways to save money when the economy is struggling and we are too. Paying bills becomes our top priority and everything else seems to take a back seat. We do need to save money every chance we get, not only on our purchases, but we need to be saving money for the future as well.
Finding ways to save money on the things you need can be easier than you thought! Many retailers are struggling as well and they need to attract your money! They are holding incredible sales on everything from daily essentials like housewares to clothing and shoes. It is worth your time and effort to shop around a bit before making any purchases these days. You can check online as well as in the advertisements of your local newspaper.
Many retailers offer even greater discounts if you order online. Some have even begun to waive shipping costs. This can add up to a huge savings quickly! For the larger department stores, check out the option to order online and if the store near you doesn’t stock the items, they will ship your order to your local store for free! Consider doing this on every day items as well. Why make a trip to the drug store, grocery store and shoe store when you can save the gas and order everything you need online for less money?
Consider buying things you know you will have a continued need for in bulk. Things like toilet paper and napkins. It is amazing the savings when you buy in bulk. Usually there is a one time membership fee to places like Costco and Sam’s Club, but you will quickly recoup that cost in the savings you are about to get! I don’t always suggest buying in bulk, (as it brings up storage issues and people tend to buy more than they need just because it’s cheap) but when times are tough and you are counting every penny, buying in bulk can help out a great deal! Just keep in mind things like how much room you have at home to store these things and only buy things you know you need!
The money you are saving while buying things on sale, online and in bulk can be put into a savings account! It’s money you wouldn’t have had anyway, so why not put it to work for you? Also start saving that change you have in your pocket or purse every day. I know one guy that started depositing his change once a week and in less than three months he had enough money to pay for a new water heater! It really does add up quickly!
Finding ways to save money is an ongoing challenge. However, changing the way you focus on money can help in that process. Thinking in a more positive manner will help you to find more positive paths in which to meet this challenge. Start believing that you will find incredible savings and before you know it, you will!
