Where are all of the Jobs?

These days it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find a job.  It no longer matters how old you are, what kind of work ethic you have, or how much experience you can offer.  The best of the best are finding themselves unemployed and wondering where all of the jobs have gone!

Unemployment is hitting record high numbers.  Companies are downsizing and eliminating jobs everywhere you turn.  The economic crisis is no secret to the working class!  We are scrambling to find ways just to meet our bare necessities.  Gone are the days of wanting to make a few extra dollars for an upcoming vacation, now we are just trying to figure out how we are going to put food on the table next week.

Even in the midst of this hardship there are jobs out there.  The key is knowing where to look.  I am sure you have heard of Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, Hotjobs.com, and the myriad of other online job boards.  You should check theses daily!  Many people have actually found jobs using these online tools.  Do you know that sites like Craigslist.com also have a jobs section? They do, and there are many legitimate jobs to be found there!  Be careful though, there are also many scams.

One way to know that a job posting is a scam after you apply is when you get a response asking you to sign up to a credit score site.  Legitimate companies do not need you to join these sites in order to check your credit!  Another sure sign that you should run in the other direction is when you get a response asking for your personal bank information.  No legitimate company would request that information upon first receiving your application!  Use common sense, trust your instincts, if it sounds phony, it probably is!

Of course the best way to find a new job is to talk to your friends and family!  Finding a job is much easier if you know someone within the company!  Word of mouth is huge. Some companies have even stopped advertising openings because they get inundated with resumes.  They are simply telling their employees and asking for referrals!  Let your friends know you are search for a job they may be able to help you!

Networking is another great way to find a new job.  Not just your friends and family, but your dry cleaner, your local coffee house, your local library are also great places to talk about the fact that you are looking for a job!  Word of mouth travels fast!  Tell everyone!  Go to networking events!  Check your local area as these events are held everywhere and often!

Job fairs are also being held everywhere these days!  Go to everyone one you can find!  Get your name out there!  Take the time to create a fantastic resume and go armed and ready!   You should actually prepare a few different versions of your resume.  If you are qualified for more than one specific job title, create a resume for every job you qualify for!  Employers want to see resume’s that are specific to the job they are looking to fill!

There are jobs out there; you just have to be patient, determined and persistent!
