When You Make Money at Home What Could Go Wrong?
As unemployment rates continue to rise and companies continue to make cuts, people are jumping at the change to make money at home. Sounds like the ideal situation, and for most it is! However, if you are considering a work from home scenario, you need to know the pitfalls as well!
Work from home jobs are popping up everywhere! People need to find ways to increase income, to make enough cash to pay the bills, to find new ways to financial security. The economy is tough and this seems like a great way to protect yourself from layoffs and unemployment. Creating a home business or working as an independent contractor puts your financial status back into your own control. It also gives you the flexibility to be there for your family and to set your own hours. These are all positives and major reasons people have chosen to make money at home.
Unfortunately no one ever seems to discuss the negatives of doing work from home. It may seem like there simply can’t be that many negatives, but there are and they need to be considered before you make the decision to make money at home!
Consider the reality that you will no longer have an employer to deduct your taxes from your paycheck. When you work from home, are an independent contractor, or run a business that allows you to make money at home, you become solely responsible for paying the taxes that your employer used to deduct automatically from your paychecks. Remember, business taxes are different than personal taxes and much more costly! You will probably need to hire an accountant or a tax professional to assist you when you make money at home!
Another potential challenge is knowing when work ends and family time begins. It is far too common when you work from home to spend 10-15 hours a day working. As you have no set start or end times, no one there to turn out the lights and say it’s time to go home, you tend to work many more hours! For some this can be a really large negative! Often times family suffers because of the hours spent trying to make money at home.
When we work outside of the home we interact with the world on a face to face basis. We are socially involved with our co-workers. We talk at the coffee pot, we meet for lunch, we meet new and exciting people; we are in the world interacting daily. When you work from home you run the risk of becoming reclusive and anti-social; closing yourself off from the face to face world. This is especially true if you make money at home using your computer! You spend your days behind a screen in your home alone.
There are tremendous benefits to being able to work from home. As with any new venture you need to look at both the positives and the negatives! Be aware of potential issues and take steps to avoid them before trying to make money at home. Schedule your day, stick to it! Get out there and socialize a few times a week and hire a qualified tax professional to assist you with the IRS!
