Save Money by Avoiding these Common Traps!
When money is tight and people are struggling financially, finding ways to save is a priority. Especially during tough economic times finding ways to save money is a necessity. Many of us think that we have to completely change our lives and our priorities in order to save money. The truth is small changes and avoiding certain common pitfalls can make a huge difference in your savings account!
Whether the economy is thriving or struggling certain things will remain constant. You will always need a place to live, you will always need food on the table, and if you get sick you will need medicine. These things are basic and common to everyone. It is the commonality of these necessities that help the retail world to thrive and cause your bank account to dwindle.
Understanding that the retail market understands human nature is important to understanding why they do what they do. They know that putting lower priced, smaller items that people like near the registers helps to sell those items in great quantities. They know putting candy bars near the register will increase sales for that candy bar. Why is this? While you are waiting in line to buy whatever it is you came in for (toilet paper for example) you can’t help but notice the candy bars that are lined up so pleasingly right near your fingertips. People are not great at resisting temptation and retailers know this!
It’s not just candy! You will often see magazines near the register that have enticing headlines and bright colors on them. Retailers know that these headlines and colors will draw our eyes and our interests. Again they are capitalizing on human behavior. You are there anyway and you have been wanting to read up on how to lose 20lbs by the holiday so why not. Why not indeed!
Been to a major drug store chain recently? Perhaps you have a prescription that must be filled. This is a necessity and not a frivolous purchase. However, where exactly is the pharmacy located in that store? All the way in the back! You have to walk through many aisles, see all kinds of product on your way to the pharmacy counter and on your way out. Think that is a coincidence? Think again!
Do you know that sales increase substantially when the sign in front of the product says “3 for $6.00″ or “5 for $10.00″ even when the actual price inidividually is literally $2.00! Do the math folks! This isn’t a savings and yet retailers do this all the time and it works EVERY TIME to increase their sales! Of course they use various dollar amounts and signs but pay attention next time you see a sign like this…..odds are good that the regular price individually is the same!
Understanding why we buy impulse items and why we spend money on things we don’t need can go a long way to help you stop falling for these traps! Once you stop being sucked in, you will be saving money with ease! Your bank account will grow and you will not have suffered a moment to get it that way!
