Recycling Paper Business #2

In most cities, you’ll need a business license or permit. Coordinate with your local government area to legalize your operation.

Once you have widen your scope of business, the next thing you have to do is set up an area-wide depot, and this could either be a vacant car lot or probably a closed service station. You will need a scale to weigh and a desk space to manage your books.  You will also need a space for your customers to drive and unload their papers and the ideal place is a vacant service station between the driveways where the gas pump is located so that they can pull in if they are going to purchase gasoline.

Don’t forget to put a couple of signs to announce that you are buying old newspapers.  Be sure to check the current price in your area but the ongoing rate is 2 cents per pound. You should also organize your schedule to call upon all the businesses, stores, and warehouse in your area and talk to the owners or managers and ask if you can haul their old cardboard boxes because the more paper you collect the more money you are going to make. Check if the businesses in your surrounding area are satisfied with their pick up system and offer 2 cents per pound if they save their paper and cardboard boxes for you. To efficiently handle the cardboard boxes, you’ll need a knife with which to slit the sides of the boxes and flatten them.

Another paper source is the offices in your area because they normally throw away reams of paper to their basket. Visit these offices with a “save-a-tree” box that you can purchase in recycling depots and ask the people to discard their paper in these boxes. You can also visit the print shops because they throw away as much paper as they sell.

It will pay you to advertise your telephone and business directories in the yellow pages with your prices and other rates when the paper is brought to you, when you pick up and haul it away. At the same time, you can run a regular ad on your daily paper and Thursday through Saturday are the best days because these are the days that people are thinking about cleaning the house or office, and earn extra money as well.

It will benefit you if you join civic and service clubs or mingle with business leaders in your area so that you will meet a lot of people and you can tell them about your business. Try to research about the statistics of how much paper the people use each year as opposed to the limited supply of timber to open their eyes and do something to recycle as much as possible. If you believe that recycling is an avenue that everyone can benefit, and back it with enthusiasm, you will definitely succeed.

All it takes is organization, planning and some energy on your part but if you put forth all the efforts you know how, there is no reason why you shouldn’t have a comfortable income with your own recycling business.  Act now!
