Recycling Paper Business #1

One of the easiest and the most lucrative ways of earning a living from home is by collecting newspapers and selling them to a recycling plant and it’s as simple as saving your old newspaper, and turning them into a central collection depot. You can start by clearing a space in your garage or garden shed for storage.  If you want, you can rent a mini-warehouse in your neighborhood but the important thing is you have storage for your collected papers.

It is interesting to note that, you can develop a very respectable income by collecting and selling paper and it does not take any education, training, or experience and your business success will only depend on how organized, and how hard you work.  Old newspapers cost $50 per ton; used cardboard is $75 per ton and a high-grade paper as much as $2120 per ton.  Fact is, Americans use 200 million tons of paper a year and they throw away at least 100 million tons of paper and almost all of them could be recycled, and that’s about 8 billion dollars worth of paper to be collected and recycled each year. That’s a lot of money!

You can start by looking for old newspaper, and old mails around your home. Selling stacks of newspapers you have accumulated won’t make you rich right away and they may not even add up to a ton a year but if you can collect stacks of paper from your relatives, friends, and neighbors you can easily collect 100-pound sack – that’s only from your immediate neighborhood. Think about the extra money you will be getting if you haul them to the recycling depot.  All you need is a pickup truck or trailer that can be pulled by your personal car. You will easily make $300 every weekend if you are serious about this and all you need is just a little planning and some effort.

If you don’t want to do the actual collecting yourself, you can hire people to do this for you or you can contact civic organizations and tell them you’ll pay for all the papers they collect.  If you have a computer and a printer you can make a simple sign with your contact number and tape it to the side of your pick up or car so that you will get your new business off the ground. Simply drive through the residential neighborhood and ask residents if they have old news paper or cardboard boxes they’d like you to haul away for them and regardless of whether the person gives you a stack of paper, always leave a business card.  Set up a route to follow and develop a regular collection every two weeks and you’ll find people waiting for you with their stack of papers, others will even put their papers out as they set out their garbage for collection.

Once you have organized your collection routes, you can set up crews to make the collections for you each day for a minimum wage.  Hiring other people to do it for you will enable you to earn more money because you can do more work together with less time. In most cities, you might need a license or permit so make sure to do the research before you start your own paper recycling business.
