Jobs: Give to Get
If you are unemployed and trying to figure out what to do next, you are not alone. Many people are facing major changes in their lives, which opens the door to some great opportunities. The key may very well be to give of your time and the rewards could be a new job!
The economy is in crisis, people are in need everywhere you look. The need for volunteers is at an all time high! Places like food banks, the Red Cross, even your local library are seeking people who have the time to pitch in and help their neighbors. While you are job hunting, consider using the spare time you find yourself with to help out our community.
You can give to get, as I have seen it happen numerous times before! People volunteer because they have the time and want to send some positive energy into their neighborhoods. As a result they meet people they may have never have come into contact with any other way. Talk about taking networking to a whole new level!
A friend of mine lost her job and spent her mornings job seeking. In the afternoons she would donate her time to the local library. She felt good about herself, she knew she was giving back and doing something that mattered. After a while she had met numerous people and always let it be known that she was looking for work. One of the other volunteers happened to be a big wig at a local company and invited her to interview for an opening they were about to post. She got the job! Had she not been a volunteer, she never would have heard about the opening nor had the great reference from her co-volunteer!
When we give we often receive! The world has a way of saying thank you when we give of ourselves to help others. Being unemployed is stressful and can quickly cause depression to set in. It doesn’t need to be that way! You can fill the time you suddenly have by giving to others. More often than not, what is needed most is your time and willingness to help out. You end up feeling so much better about yourself. A sure cure for the fear that comes with being unemployed is helping others who are even less fortunate than you.
Be positive, be open to all possibilities! Losing a job doesn’t have to be the end of your world, but rather an opening to things much greater! Send out positive energy and you will certainly feel the power that giving instills within you. Remember that doors open for those willing to find them and walk through them. Give of your time, make a difference in your community and finding a job will seem like much less of a daunting experience!
You will meet new people, expand your circle, and allow you to network with people you may never have met otherwise. Doing good work and helping others is a reward in and of itself.
