Job Postings to AVOID!
Many people are unemployed and searching job boards in hope of finding a new career. The economy is struggling and people are willing to apply for any job posting that even comes close to their skill level. This has opened the door for those that want to take advantage of the desperate. It is shameful and horrendous, but true!
People are being scammed out of hundreds of thousands of dollars before they realize the job was all a ruse. The scariest part of these scams is that they are using reputable job boards in which to post their fraudulent positions. Sites like Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com, Odesk.com and many more have been used to by unscrupulous people that just want to take your money!
They post a job opening listing very specific abilities and requirements but are often vague about the actual job description. They are also notorious for having either a yahoo, gmail or hotmail email address and usually respond to your application very quickly. You are often asked to handle incoming deposits, using your own bank account. They will say that you will keep a percentage of each deposit and you will send them the balance. Unfortunately, what ends up happening is that you end up having an overdrawn bank account and owe the bank big dollars!
These jobs are not legitimate and are popping up in the most respectable of job boards! Today alone I found 5 of them on two separate job boards. Both postings looked legitimate, but after applying for the positions I was quickly asked to give out personal bank account information, date of birth and social security number, additionally I was asked to purchase a check printing machine that they would reimburse me for after 90 days. Why would any reputable company require a home based worker to buy a check printing machine and business checks?
Please use common sense when applying for positions! If there is any indication that you will be transferring funds, receiving deposits, processing payroll (not by doing the calculations but by actually sending money to others) run as fast as you can in the opposite direction! You will open yourself up to being charged with fraud, money laundering, theft, etc. These people are only after your last dime!
Another popular job scam that is popping up all over the web are the job postings that once you apply, ask you to sign up for a credit site to obtain your credit rating. Don’t fall for this one either! Reputable companies are able to do back ground checks on you if they so need. You NEVER have to sign up for any type of credit reporting site in order to get a job!
Desperation can cause us to overlook obvious red flags. When you are job hunting, read between the lines! Don’t think that just because the company has a website, and professional looking forms for you to fill out, that they are in fact legitimate! More and more of these scam artists are just using legitimate company names that have a presence on the web to lure you in!
Do your research, don’t fall for the gimmicks! Don’t become prey for these vultures!
