How You Can Save Money Today
Saving money is on everyone’s mind these days. The economy is struggling and people are fearful about the future. With this fear comes the need to want to save every penny possible, just in case. This is something we should have been doing long before the economic crisis! Fear not, it isn’t too late. You can still find ways to save.
One of the first things people are doing is cutting out extras that used to seem like essentials. Things like visiting the local coffee house for your coffee once, twice and three times daily. Suddenly that just doesn’t seem as necessary anymore. This is saving people literally hundreds of dollars! When times get tough our priorities change and we often find that we were being pretty carefree with our money. When you start adding up the things you routinely spend money on it can be quite eye opening!
Consider how much money you spend every month on eating out. This includes lunch as well as dinner. Even those who never packed a lunch in their lives are doing so now! The savings make that extra five minutes to prepare your lunch more than worth it! The great side effect of this savings option is that you tend to eat healthier when you pack your own lunch as well. It’s a win-win! Making dinner at home will always cost much less than eating in a restaurant. Even if you know of a great cheap diner, in the long run you will save money by eating at home. No money spent on gas to get to the restaurant and the fact that you can cook once and get dinner and lunch the next day adds up quick. Not to mention the great side effect of eating dinner at home, you tend to spend more time with your family actually interacting and sharing. Another win-win for everyone!
Think about how much money you spend each month on your cell phone plan and your cable television bill. In most cases you can lower your plans and save more money than you realize every month! Do you really need all the extras that are currently on these plans? Call your carriers and discuss your options! You may find that you have been paying for services you never even use!
Instead of focusing on having the newest and best of everything, focus on creating the strongest and healthiest family on the block. Spend more time at home enjoying the blessings you already have instead of out in the world chasing things you don’t have or need. Life doesn’t have to be focused on getting, it truly can be focused on having and being grateful.
Saving money is very important not only in this tough economy, but always. Our society has become so materialistic that we often forget the fact that the best things in life are actually free. Don’t just take time to smell the roses, but consider planting your own! Laugh and enjoy your friends and family, realize that spending money isn’t nearly as important as spending time!
