How to Get a Job Fast in the Real World
The numbers of unemployed is skyrocketing. Some of us are unemployed due to downsizing, others because we cannot seem to find work in our particular fields. It can be difficult to find the perfect job, the ideal career these days. However, there are ways to get a job fast even if it is not in your ideal field.
The first thing you need to realize is that sometimes you have to take a job outside of your field. Especially in tough times, compromise is paramount! Sometimes taking a job outside of your preferred field can lead to jobs within your field in the future. If you need to get a job fast, you need to open the scope of work you are willing to do!
If you have always worked in an office, perhaps you want to look at expanding your focus to retail. There is a high turnover in the retail world, which means jobs are constantly available. Once you get your foot in the door, then you can look at potential growth opportunities, work more in your field. Before you know it you could be moving up to the corporate offices and getting your ideal job. Most retail stores promote from within, therefore starting as a retail clerk or cashier can quickly lead to higher more relatable positions. Again you have to be willing to step outside of your comfort zone and apply for jobs that do not initially seem to fit your career path.
When times are tough and you need to get a job fast, you must be open to all possibilities. I know of one woman who lost her job due to downsizing. She was a regional supervisor, with a company car, great salary and amazing benefits. Suddenly she found herself unemployed and quickly draining her savings. She applied and got a position at a retail store as a clerk. It was a serious pay cut, a major blow to her ego, but it was a steady paying job and work she was able to do.
She did her best, went to work with a great attitude and proved herself to the higher ups. In less than 6 months she was asked to apply for a corporate position which actually paid more than her previous salary as a regional supervisor! Sometimes what can feel like a step backward is actually a step forward in disguise!
In order to get a job fast, open your area of research. Apply for jobs that you know have a tendency to have a high turnover. Remember, getting your foot in the door is just the first step. Having a good attitude, excellent work ethic and the ability to swallow your pride and be grateful for any opportunity will make you stand out in the crowd! You will be noticed and doors will open for you that you didn’t even realize were available.
Realize that a steady paying job is the goal for now. You have to start somewhere and needing to get a job fast means being willing to do whatever it takes to achieve the goal of a paycheck. (Even if the paycheck is much smaller than you are accustomed to temporarily). Prove your worth and watch new doors open! You can work in your ideal job again, but to get a job fast, take advantage of what is available today.
