How to Find a Job You will Enjoy
It really isn’t as tough as one might think to find a job you enjoy. When you like what you do, it doesn’t even feel like you are working, time goes by fast and you feel satisfied and happy with your work life. You can have this feeling; you can find a job you will enjoy.
The first step is to really look at who you are and what you enjoy. Some people are great at working with their hands, while others find themselves happiest when around other people. Figure out what makes you happy. Do you have a hobby that you are passionate about? Take for example those that love working on their cars, obviously finding a job as a mechanic would be the perfect job for them. Maybe you have a talent for the written word; there are tons of opportunities and jobs that involve creative writing.
Are you the person in your group that everyone comes to when they need help solving a problem? Maybe customer service is a job that you would enjoy. Are you forever finding stray animals and taking them in? Maybe working at the Humane Society would be a job you would enjoy.
Knowing yourself and your talents and likes is the key to finding a job you will enjoy. Let’s take a look at the three main categories you should explore:
Are you creative, idea person? This person has curiosity and may thrive on challenges and exploring new ideas. Some jobs in this category could include writing, science and medicine as they all require curiosity and creativity.
Are you a people person? If you are a sociable person who is friendly and outgoing, you may find teaching, counseling, coaching, politics or sales as jobs you would enjoy.
The key is to figure out what you enjoy doing. What would be more like fun than work for you? Once you determine your talents or likes, then you can start searching for the job you would most enjoy.
Many people have taken their passion and turned it into a full time job! Think about Mrs. Fields cookies. She started by making cookies at home, loved doing it, and now she has a multi-million dollar organization selling those cookies. It is possible to take your passion and turn it into a business.
It can be helpful to talk to those that know you well. Ask them, what do they think you would be good at? You may be surprised to hear some of the answers you will get. Sometimes others see talents in us that we don’t even realize are talents. Talk to friends and family, tell them that you want to find a job that you really enjoy, but aren’t sure what that would be. Ask for their input.
Finding a job you enjoy is possible! When job hunting, look closely at job descriptions, think about your strengths and see if there is a fit. Just because the job title may not sound appealing, the actual work that needs to be performed in that job may be right up your alley!
