Paraffin waxes when burned releases black smoke into the air when burning and the soot contains 11 known toxins of which 2 are cancer causing.

Soy Wax. This is the latest by-product in candle making industry, and has taken a firm hold because it is preferred by most consumers. It is made from 100% soy bean oil, and produces less soot, it is renewable which makes it environmentally friendly.

Beeswax. This is the oldest wax in the candle business. It is produced by bees as a by-product in the making of honey. It has a natural sweet fragrance that slightly changes depending on what flowers or plants the bees are feeding on. It is also suitable for people who have very sensitive allergies. Beeswax also burns cleaner like the soy wax but it is more expensive though.

Gel Wax. Candle gel is a combination mineral oil and resin, and not a wax at all. It burns slower than the conventional paraffin or vegetable waxes. Higher temperature will not make it melt faster but produce more smoke.

Palm Wax. This is made from natural palm oil. Usually it produces a crystalline effect that gives a feather like effect and makes the finished product more appealing. Palm wax can be combined with soy wax to make it harder while retaining its natural characteristic.
